MKA Engine

A deterministic, multiplayer and moddable Rust simulation engine we are building for grand strategy games.

MKA Engine is a simulation engine for grand strategy games that we are building in Rust, independent of any single game. It is designed for worlds where hundreds of countries, tens of thousands of provinces and millions of population units are recalculated every game day.

Principles

  • Deterministic: The same start and the same commands produce the exact same game, bit for bit, on every computer. In multiplayer, only player commands travel between machines.
  • Game-independent: The engine solves how to compute quickly and correctly; rules, numbers and content belong to the game.
  • Moddable: The game itself is a mod. Mods can change content, add new systems or switch existing ones off. Mods run in a safe sandbox.
  • Built by measurement: Every phase closes with exit criteria written up front and a speed measurement.

Status

MKA Engine is in development. The first versions of the core, the save system, the mod interface and the multiplayer foundation are written; we are working on the engine primitives for AI and warfare. There is no playable game or released version yet.
